It started on my History 3 class this afternoon. The lesson was about American colonization of the Philippines. And you know what? I despise MANUEL L. QUEZON for calling all Muslims in the Philippines a Mohammedan. He was a president. And I presumed that he is well-educated about things. But, I guess, NOT!!! He should go back to school. Well apparently, that may not happen because he is dead!
He should be pretty informed with the DIFFERENCE of what he called Mohammedans and Muslims. Basically, Muslims do not claim Prophet Mohammad as GOD. He is messenger of Allah. He is an instrument for all humans. Now, why call us Mohammedans??? Grrr..Are there Mohammedans? Maybe there isn't, right?
Yeah. We pray FOR Nabi Mohammad. But we do not pray TO him. This? This is a common mistake to those who knows very little of Islam yet presume to be knowledgeable about it. Here's a comment to all those kind of people. GET A LIFE. DO A WIDE RESEARCH. Then, say your words.
The next situation that triggered my anger is the happening tonight. I was chatting on facebook when someone came up and chatted me in Maranao (language of fellow Muslims in the Philippines; a tribe). I said, "I am sorry for I cannot understand you. I am not Maranao."
Know what he said? He said, "But you look like you are a Muslim."
Dang! Hit in the eye! What was he thinking? Only Maranaos are Muslims? So I came up with a statement for him.
"Di lang naman Maranao ang mga Muslim aa?"
Maranaos are not the only Muslims, right?
That may not be the exact translation in English. Haha. Anyway, that's something pretty close to it. ;) People commit mistakes. I kinda can forgive the latter. But the former is vague. hahah..

mohammedan was the common term for muslims in that era. you would hardly find references to muslims as "muslims" in that period.
ReplyDeleteWell, maybe for the Westerners.. But, they could have asked first before naming names to people/ group of people.. duh! He should have known what's best...
